  1. Good night

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

    Okay, we'll leave it there.

Celtic were doing just fine until gifting a goal from a free-kick in first-half injury time... Then the roof fell down during the second half, with two red cards.

You can read Martin Dowden's report from Rotterdam here.

Lazio are in Glasgow in a couple of weeks and Celtic really need to take something from that.

  2. 'The happiest I've seen a manager after a 2-0 defeat'

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

    Aiden McGeady

    Former Celtic winger on Sportsound

I think Brendan Rodgers can take a lot of heart from when the team went down to nine men, the resilience and the intent was still there to press, to get about the pitch.

I know what it's like, having been in that position before.

He seems pretty upbeat and going into the game with Lazio in two weeks' time I think he's looking at the first 60 minutes of tonight's game and saying to himself 'we're at this level and we've shown that, we just have to be a bit more clinical and a bit more cute with our final ball, with decision making'.

So I think he's never going to be happy after a 2-0 defeat but that's probably the happiest I've seen a manager after a 2-0 defeat, in terms of the way he spoke.

  3. 'Players showed great attitude and courage'

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

More from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers...

"What we showed in the game is that we're going to be competitive. We started off really well. We looked a threat and progressed the ball well. With better decisions we might've had an opportunity to get in front.

"Unfortunately for us we get two players sent off. It's a difficult level at 11 v 11. The players kept going, it was harsh on them.

"The players showed great attitude and courage to play. The first 60 minutes we were well in the game. The players never gave up.

"With one or two more players coming back, it'll hopefully put us in really good stead for the remainder of the competition."

  4. Post update

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

That record of 2.4 goals conceded per away game is the highest of any side to have played 30+ times on the road in the competition.

  5. A familiar tale

  6. Post update

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

Having two players sent off on their Champions League debuts is not a first...

The same thing happened to Gent back in September 2015.

  7. 'Inexperience played part in red cards' - Rodgers

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells TNT Sports: “I feel for the players. I think for the first 60 minutes it was a very even game against a team that’s doing well and scoring a lot of goals, and we matched them.

“Disappointed with the goal. We made a decision in the game to adjust the wall and it cost us, but we’ll take that, I don’t mind players making decisions in-game.

“Very disappointed with the two sendings off and nine men is obviously very difficult.

“If we get to the last game to play Feyenoord at home with everything to play for, we’ll be in with a fantastic chance."

A bit more on the two dismissals... “First one you just have to shepherd it through to the goalkeeper, don’t get into the fight as it’s getting to Joe Hart, it’s just inexperience.

“And Odin is a fantastic young player, he’ll learn from that, you can’t go to ground like that, particularly in Europe and he’ll learn from that."

    Brendan Rodgers
  8. Post update

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

Is that draw in Rome a good thing for Celtic?

Might they have preferred Atletico to run away with it and scrap for points against Lazio and Feyenoord?

  9. 'The group is wide open'

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

    Aiden McGeady

    Former Celtic winger on Sportsound

Feyenoord were slightly disappointing when you consider the massive build-up they were given.

Brendan Rodgers will take the brunt and the blame, he won't hang anyone out to dry.

The draw in the other game leaves the group wide open. Tonight can't have a massive bearing on how the group will finish.

  10. 'We have five games to fix it' - McGregor

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

Celtic captain Callum McGregor tells TNT Sports his side have time to rescue their Champions League hopes.

"Difficult game, I thought we started really well," he said.

"They get the goal right before half time and that undoes a lot of good work from us.

"It would have been easy to lose three, four or five at that point which is testament to the group.

"Then to get two men sent off in quick succession takes the game away from us...we’ll learn the lesson.

"Probably slightly harsh [red cards] but in Uefa competitions the leniency is probably not quite as high.

"There are five games to go so hopefully they'll be walking off thinking we didn’t give up, we didn’t quit... We were still fighting for each other at the end.

"It's hard enough with 11 men, never mind nine.

"Disappointing night but we have five games to try and fix it."

    Callum McGregor
  11. 'Press room puzzled as we wait for Rodgers'

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

    Martin Dowden

BBC Sport Scotland at De Kuip

There is a slight sense of disbelief among the Scottish media at what just happened there.

Celtic had looked very good right up to the opening goal on the stroke of half time.

The outcome may feel familiar but the night offered so much promise for Celtic until events spiralled out of control.

    More lessons to be learned.

  12. 'Learning curve for Celtic'

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

    Aiden McGeady

    Former Celtic winger on Sportsound

Ultimately at this level, it's fine margins.

It's taking your chances, being clinical, Celtic weren't. Before the red cards, I don't think Feyenoord were either.

Celtic can take positives, but it's a learning curve for a lot of new players.

  13. A manic five minutes

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

Gustaf Lagerbielke is shown a second yellow card for giving away a penalty with a tug in the box.

    Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

But Joe Hart offers Celtic a lifeline by making a superb stop to deny Feyenoord a second.

    Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

Fewer than five minutes later, Celtic find themselves down to nine men when Odin Holm's late, studs-up challenge results in the substitute being sent down the tunnel.

    Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic
  14. 'Celtic must bounce back'

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

    John Hartson

Former Celtic striker on TNT Sports

Celtic don't have a lot of time to over-dwell on this result.

They go again on Saturday with a couple of league games in between this one and their home tie with Lazio where they will be desperate to bounce back.

This team have to try and get the crowd to push them on at home.

This club is too big, it's too important, and in football, you always get a chance to put it right.

A lot of things have conspired against them tonight and I'm not making excuses, Feyenoord have played well.

  15. What next for Celtic?

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

Celtic go again in this competition at home to Lazio on 4 October.

Before that the Scottish champions have visits to Livingston and Motherwell to negotiate.

  16. Last-gasp goalie heroics in Rome

    FT: Lazio 1-1 Atletico Madrid

Some truly remarkable late drama in the other Group E match at the Stadio Olimpico as the hosts drew level in the 95th minute through goalkeeper Ivan Provedel.

The shot-stopper came up for a corner and ghosted into the middle of the box to glance a Luis Alberto delivery into the net.

Provedel nods in the dramatic equaliser

  17. Post update

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

The home fans celebrate a first opening day win in this competition.

Celtic have yet to start with maximum points in the group phase.

  18. FULL-TIME Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

Another tough night in the Champions League for Celtic.

Two goals conceded, two red cards.

It could have been worse if Joe Hart hadn't saved a penalty.

    FT: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic
  19. Post update

    Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

The Dutch side are knocking it about now, not really pushing for a third goal.

Celtic just want the final whistle...

  20. 'Questions will be asked'

    Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic

    John Hartson

Former Celtic striker on TNT Sports

Should Hatate have come straight back in having only played a bit at the weekend, or should Turnbull have started?

Brendan Rodgers obviously played the team he was desperate to start with, but there will be an inquest now.
